Welcome to Alpo’s Savannah – Where Art Meets Nature
Discover one of Finland’s most unique and heartwarming cultural treasures! Alpo’s Savannah (in Finnish Alpon savanni), located in the peaceful countryside of Kauhajoki, is an extraordinary contemporary folk art park created by the self-taught artist Alpo Koivumäki (1939–2023).
Over the decades, Alpo transformed his traditional farmyard into a vibrant, mystical safari. Using discarded scrap metal, old tires, plastic, and other recycled materials, he breathed life into hundreds of life-sized animal sculptures.
What Awaits You:
- An Eco-Friendly Safari: Walk among majestic lions, elegant giraffes, striking elks, and exotic birds—all crafted with incredible detail from repurposed materials.
- Art with a Heart: Experience the powerful message of recycling, creativity, and a deep respect for the natural world.
- A Peaceful Atmosphere: Stroll through the lush, green yard and enjoy the harmony between the whimsical art and the tranquil Finnish nature.
Whether you are an art lover, a family on a road trip, or a traveler looking for something truly off the beaten path, Alpo’s Savannah offers an unforgettable experience that will make you smile and look at ”trash” in a whole new light.
Plan Your Visit:
Come and experience the magic for yourself! The art park is open to visitors and offers a delightful detour into the world of Finnish ITE art (outsider art).
